Our Communication Vision

Our Vision at Brooke School is for all learners to be confident and capable communicators who can express themselves fully, share their ideas, needs and feelings, and engage meaningfully with others.  As a broad-spectrum school, we acknowledge that there are many different communication styles. Our goal is to empower every learner to be understood and to understand others, fostering social connections in a way that is comfortable for them and supporting them to learn that there is a range of communication styles.  Enabling them to thrive in all aspects of life.

We understand that communication development is a unique journey for every learner. We aim to ensure that our environment and our support includes acceptance of a range of different communication styles, preferences and levels. We strive to celebrate every learner’s communication strengths, build their confidence and independence, and enable them to participate to the best of their ability in the School and wider community.

Total Communication Approach

Total Communication is an approach based on valuing all means of communication equally.
By using the total communication approach, we create an Inclusive Communication Environment for our learners where no single form of communication is valued above others, enabling learners to process information and express themselves in whichever way, or combination of ways, works for them.
